PUPPY TRAINING
For puppy training, we like the Richard Wolters methods for teaching young dogs how to learn. Although Wolters methods are considered “dated” in some circles, we believe that a lot of his principles are extremely effective. It is very rewarding to see a 12 week old pup walking calmly at heel, sitting on command and coming to the trainer when called. The foundation for all training can be firmly in place by the time a talented pup is 16 weeks old.
Pups have frequent contact with members of our family and training staff. They are very well socialized and like to be around people. They are treated as members of our family, which they are. Marlene especially likes to give them doggie treats while they are young and the pups soon learn that people are good to be around.
We train our young puppies in short frequent sessions that are upbeat and
positive, The pup is having fun at all times and doesn’t even know that
he is learning what we want him to do.
Puppies require a lot of attention and time to be properly trained. We only allow 2 puppies from well bred litters to be in training at any time so we can give each one the individual attention that is necessary to advance to the highest level of the dogs potential.
Our puppies learn early what decoys are and that retrieving is FUN FUN FUN!!!!!! You won’t see a Runnin Rebel retriever doing his work with tail or ears down or plodding along. They are full of energy and zip.
This starts early in their training and we make all aspects of training enjoyable. I am not sure that I don’t have more fun than the pups some days. I really like to see the “lights go on” when they figure out that they are really having fun while learning at the same time. This is my favorite part of training.
Please call us well in advance to reserve a spot for your pup.
